Library Cards

A valid library card is one that has not expired and has accrued no fines and fees.
Residents of Webb County, Texas, non-residents who live in Webb County, Texas by reason of school attendance, and non-residents who pay property taxes in Webb County, Texas will be issued regular Library cards. Eligible non-residents must provide proof of residence, school attendance or property ownership (Such as a current student photo ID or current tax receipt) plus a photo ID. Temporary cards, Institutional cards, TexShare cards, E-cards, and Homebound cards can also be issued but may have different requirements.
Yes, library cards expire every year on the anniversary of the account registration date. E-cards will not be renewed and expire within one year of registration.
Visit your nearest library location and bring a photo ID with your current address. We accept other forms of address verification.
Your card may have expired, or you may have fines and fees on your account. Visit the front desk at any Laredo Public Library branch and speak to a staff member to verify what you need to reinstate your account.

Borrowing from the Library

Yes. If you lose or forget your card, you may purchase a full replacement for $5.00 or a single day pass for $1.00.
Total items limited to thirty-two (32) in any combination from the Main Library (may include up to three (3) CDs and five (5) DVDs, two (2) video games, one (1) Launchpad, and one (1) kit. Branch libraries may have different limits. Video games, Launchpads, and kits must be checked out by someone age 18 years or older.
Your library card allows you to borrow books, e-books, e-audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and other materials as available. Your library card also provides access to our electronic resources.
You can log in to your account by clicking on Catalog on our homepage and you will enter your library card number, then click on the checkouts tab and you can see your current checkouts.
You can place a hold on items by clicking place hold and selecting the library where you'd like to pick up the item.
Checkout period for all materials except video games, DVDs, Launchpads, and Kits is 2 weeks. Video games, DVDs, Launchpads, and kits may only be borrowed for one week. Loan periods for e-books and e-audiobooks vary by platform.
Only books and audiobooks can be renewed for two additional loan periods. You can renew your materials online through the "My Account" link, which can be found at the top of every page on the website, or in-person at the Library circulation desk.
Kits, video games, DVDs, and Launchpads cannot be renewed.
You can return your materials to any Laredo Public Library location. Most LPL locations have book drops for your convenience after hours. Please return any item labeled "RETURN INSIDE" by coming in to any of our branches; do not put these items into the book drops. Items labeled "RETURN INSIDE" include DVDs, CDs, kits, Launchpads, and video games.
If you lose an item you have borrowed, you will be charged the replacement cost of the item and a $5 non-refundable processing fee. The same charges apply to items returned with serious damage. The library cannot accept replacement items in lieu of lost items. Items returned with damage that warrants withdrawal from the library's collection will be treated as lost.

Fines & Fees

Books and audiobooks are $0.35 per day. DVDs, kits, Launchpads, and Video games are $1.00 per day.
No, fines cannot currently be paid online. Fines and fees can be paid in person at any Laredo Public Library branch. LPL only accepts cash, money orders, and personal checks.

Computers & Technology

Yes, WiFi is available at all library locations.
No, we only print in black and white.
You can print at any desktop at any of our branches. Prints cost .10 cents, one-sided, and only in black and white.
