The Laredo Public Libraries, in collaboration with the Texas Center for the Book and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), invites Texans of all ages to take part in the statewide Texas America250 Reading Challenge through the end of the year.

From now through Dec. 31, 2026, participants are encouraged to log 2,500 minutes (41.6 hours) in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of the following activities:

  • Reading and/or listening to audiobooks
  • Attending library storytimes or other library events
  • Visiting state parks
  • Community service

Those who complete the challenge will receive a special certificate signed by Governor Greg Abbott. The Texas America250 Reading Challenge is self-reported. While supplies last, participants who finish the challenge will also receive a small American flag and a booklet containing the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence from their local library! For more information or to download a reading log go to https://www.tsl.texas.gov/america250/challenge.
