Internet and Computer Policy
- A parent must accompany children under the age of 10, while
the child is using the Laredo Public Library's computers.
- The Laredo Public Library's computers are public computers.
This means that the software and Internet access available may
function differently than you expect, but they should work! Please
let us know when something's not working so that we can fix it.
- We ask that you not tamper with the configuration. If you have
suggestions to improve and/or add to what's currently offered,
please e-mail the Acting Children's Librarian, Irma Gonzalez at
irma@laredolibrary.org.
- The library staff wants to help you with the computers and
Internet resources. However, depending on the staff available
and our workload for that day, we may not be able to spend more
than a few minutes with any patron at a time. For this reason,
we ask for your patience with us and a willingness to explore
on your own.
Online Safety Guidelines for Children and Young Adults
Please read the following rules and share this information with
your parents:
MY RULES FOR ONLINE SAFETY
- I will not give out my address, telephone number, my parent's
work address or telephone number, or the name or location of my
school without my parent's permission.
- I will tell my parents right away if I see information that
makes me feel uncomfortable.
- I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet"
online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree
to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and
will bring my mother or father along. I will always tell my parents
first.
- I will never send a person my picture or anything else without
first checking with my parents.
- I won't answer messages that are mean or in any way make me
feel uncomfortable. If I do, I will tell my parents or the librarian
in charge.
- I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for
going online. I realize that if I break the rules at Laredo Public
Library, my Internet privileges may be revoked.
