The Internet Public Library

The Internet Public Library is the first public library of and for the Internet Community. It's a project of the School of Information at the University of Michigan. They have partnered with Bell & Howell Information and Learning, in an effort to keep the site valuable and yet free of charge. Need homework help? Search engines especially for kids? Science Fair ideas? Check out the Youth area. This section was developed for children ages 4-11. The Youth Collection is organized by the Dewey Decimal system just like the Laredo Public Library.

Yahooligans! The Web Guide for Kid
This special segment of the Yahoo! web directories is intended to help classify and find information for kids.

The Kid's Report
The KIDS Report is a biweekly publication produced by K-12 students as a resource to other K-12 students. It is an ongoing, cooperative effort of 12 classrooms from around the United States. Teachers assist and provide support, however students select and annotate all resources included in every issue of the KIDS Report.

The American Library Association ALA Resources for Parents, Teens and Kids
This page has links to KidsConnect -- an online question-answering, help, and referral service for K-12 students. The goal of the service is to help students access and use the information available on the Internet effectively and efficiently. Games? Check out their "Cool Sites for Kids" section.

Ask Jeeves for Kids allows you to ask a question in plain English and, after interacting with you to confirm the question, Ask Jeeves for Kids takes you to one and only one web site that answers your question.

KidsClick!
KidsClick! was created by a group of librarians at the Ramapo Catskill Library System, as a logical step their young users to valuable and age appropriate web sites. It is intended to guide users to good sites; not block them from "bad" sites.

Allows simultaneous searching and ePlay, GO homework help, GO Kids and National Wildlife Federation.

Onekey
OneKey provides the largest database of kid safe sites. With a resource library that has the best that the Net has to offer in over 500 categories, OneKey is the best starting point for users tired of looking for information on their own. Filters out all of the sites on
the Net that do not meet Network TV standards.

The IPL’s Teen Division collection is developed for teenagers ages 13-19 and their parents, teachers, and anyone else interested in information directed to and about teenagers and young adults. Material used and sites recommended are chosen based on their appropriateness for the subject matter and should be written and maintained by an authoritative source.

The Laredo Independent School District
An academic calendar (including meal schedule) is available on line, as well as selected contact information. The United Independent School District
You can check the academic calendar, or use the “Services” phone directory, and get basic information on the district.

The Texas Education Network
TENETs purpose is to provide useful, up-to-date resources for the education community, including teachers, administrators, parents and students. One feature is an interactive map of K-12 Schools on the Web.

Texas Education Agency
Contact information for this agency which is responsible for public education in Texas.   They have a Home School Information link. They link to the Texas Education Code, which are the statutes regulating public education.

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
A site for parents and students interested in admission to a Texas college that covers:   financial aid, the TASP examination, and links to Texas colleges.

National Home Education Research Institute
A non-profit organization whose mission includes producing high-quality research on home education and serving as a clearinghouse of research for home educators, researchers, policy makers, and the media.

This institute is the hub of National literacy efforts. You can find information on literacy programs by state.

The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress
One of The Center for the Book's primary goals is to stimulate public interest in books, reading, and libraries.
